Castelo de S. Jorge

For over a thousand years that this is the most stunning monument of Lisbon. Situated on the highest hill of the city , the Castle of St. George offers views breathtaking. It was built in the sixth century and occupied by the Romans and Visigoths, before becoming a palace during the Arab occupation. Conquered by the first king of Portugal in 1147, named after the patron saint of England after the Luso- British alliance. One of the rooms ( where Vasco da Gama was received after his return from India ) is a small collection of archaeological finds, while one of the towers are seen images of the city captured by a periscope. The biggest attraction , however , is to walk the ramparts and enjoy the views of the peacocks that roam the grounds company
